Title Therapeutic Care Worker
Description Purpose & Objective:
To provide residential care and therapeutic intervention within the framework of a homely environment for children aged 5 – 12 who have experienced disruption and trauma in their early childhood, in line with Statement of Purpose

Responsibility
Ensuring that all policies and procedures are adhered to within own practice
Ensure the safety of children is at no time compromised and that Child Protection policies are adhered to at all times
Individual workers will be allocated areas of responsibility, ie domestic tasks, administrative and record-keeping tasks etc

Relationships
To provide and support relationships within the child group to enable children to form friendships
To work co-operatively as part of an interdependent team engaging with co-workers in an honest and professional manner
To take instruction from the shift leader in a given situation
To work co-operatively with other staff including external consultants and other external professionals
To provide a safe and boundaried relationship with the children without impinging on a child’s privacy or dignity
To work co-operatively with the supervisor to ensure a good supervision relationship

Hours of Work
In order to provide consistent care and an appropriate level of cover, a shift pattern of work will be in force over the entire week. This will include evenings, weekends and Bank holidays. Consideration of this is made when setting holiday entitlement
Average weekly hours should not exceed 45
An average of 2 sleep-in duties will be allocated each week

Main Tasks
To be responsible for the physical, social and emotional well-being of the children
To plan and organise with the team, activities, play and recreation for the children
To work with and manage difficult and challenging behaviour
To participate in all aspects of the day-to-day running of the household including preparation of food, cleaning and laundry
To actively participate in daily meetings to ensure good communication within the unit
To actively participate in supervision and appraisal
To attend and participate in internal and external training where directed
To gain a working knowledge of Policies and Procedures
To gain a working knowledge of the National Care Standards relating to Children’s Homes
To administer medication in line with policy and procedure
To participate in all aspects of record-keeping to ensure accurate documentation and smooth running of the unit
To maintain and promote good relationships with co-workers, management, external professionals and families of the children in our care
To undertake any reasonable duties beneficial to the running of the house as directed by management
To observe relevant legislation and ensure others observe legislation, eg Health & Safety, Food Hygiene, Equal Opportunities etc
